Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6

At Marvin UMC our goal is to partner with parents to help raise their children to love God and to have mission hearts. Check the monthly Messenger for a list of topics covered each Sunday in Sunday School, as well as the lessons to continue at home. Together we can provide a foundation for the acceptance and knowledge of Jesus Christ that leads to life eternal.

In addition to lessons about God, we offer numerous hand’s on opportunities for your children to live out their faith such as raising money for children's homes, collecting canned soup for the food bank or collecting pencils for PATH. Whether it is a Sunday morning or a Wednesday night, we are dedicated to communicating God’s love for the children of Marvin.

Early Christian Awareness

ECA is Sunday School for babies 6 months through 2 years. We need teachers to resume classes in September. Contact Shannon Pogue (spogue@marvinumc.com) for information.

Night in Bethlehem

All are welcome to a Night in Bethlehem informational meeting at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the first-floor children’s assembly room. Come learn about how you can help with this upcoming church-wide event. Child care is available on request.

Music

We need musicians to work with our children on Sunday mornings. Volunteer and paid positions are available. Second- through fourth-grade music time is 9:50 a.m. in the third-floor assembly room; 2-year-olds through fourth-grader music time is 10:35 a.m. in the first-floor assembly room; and fifth-graders have music time at 10 a.m. in their class.

Mission focus

We are collecting coats for PATH’s Coats for Kids project. There are drop-off boxes in both Sunday School assembly rooms.

Kindergarten tour

Kindergarteners are invited to tour the sanctuary with their parents. Meet at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19, in the sanctuary.

Bible presentation

We will present Bibles to our third-graders during both 11 o’clock services Sept. 19.

Bible study

Our Wednesday night Bible study begins at 5:45 p.m. Sept. 8. We will study a condensed version of the Bible in 90 Days. Kindergarteners through fifth-graders meet in the first floor assembly room, and 3- and 4-year-olds meet in room 129. We need volunteers to help! Contact Shannon Pogue (spogue@marvinumc.com) to get involved.

Wonders of Worship

First-graders will study Communion Oct. 3-24 during Sunday School.

Special needs

We offer a class for children with special needs at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday morning. Class leader Carol Smith has 20-plus years of experience at the St. Louis School. Children can stay in the class through the late services so parents can attend worship.

Angel Room

The Angel Room is open during all Sunday morning worship services. It has comfortable furniture and a television that shows the traditional services live. This room gives parents the opportunity to enjoy worship even if their little ones are not ready for the nursery. The Angel Room is located directly under the sanctuary in room 101.

Nurseries

The goal of the nursery program in our church is to provide God’s children with a loving, secure environment in the faith community and to provide parents with the opportunity to worship, study and serve God with peace of mind.

On Sunday we offer nurseries for the 8:45 and 11 o'clock worship services and any evening services. Nursery is provided for infants - 4K. During Sunday School (9:45–10:40 a.m.) nurseries are available for infants through older toddlers.

Nursery service is provided throughout the week as requested for various church activities such as Bible studies, meetings and seminars.

Nursery volunteer program

In order to provide the best care for Marvin’s children, we require that parents assist in the nursery once a quarter. Upon regular use of the nursery, parents will be added to a rotating volunteer schedule sent in the mail. If you are not a parent of a young child but would like to volunteer, please call or e-mail Shannon Pogue (903.510.8312).

Sunday School

Children's Sunday School classes meet from 9:45 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. There are classes and programs for all ages. Click here for a list of classes.
